Holguín Sportswomen to Attend World Judo Cup
Por / Viernes, 9 de Noviembre del 2007 / 8:24:15 / The Cuban team that will participate in the World Judo Cup to take place on November 17 and 18 in Beijing, China, includes Yurisleidis Lupetey ( 57 kg ) and Yalennis Castillo ( 70kg ) from the eastern province of Holguin, as well as the coach Legna Verdecia, Olympic Queen of Sydney 2000. Lupetey and Castillo participated in the last individual world championships, which were recently held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where Yalennis ranked seventh, while her squad partner was eliminated early, but the "Lupe" has had injury problems. Another eight judokas will travel to Beijing next November 13, led by Justo Noda and Armando Padrón, responsible of the international successes of the girls. The Cuban team, world silver medallists in Río, will travel to fight in another Chinese metropolis, Quindao (November 24 and 25 ), later will travel to South Korea (December 1 and 2 ) and finally arrive in the “Land of the Rising Sun”, Japan, December 8 and 9, where they will participate in the Jigoro Kano Cup, a homage to the creator of that ancient martial art.
