JUDO: Takemori Attends First Ever IJF Women’s Coaches Seminar

(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – One of the top female judo coaches in the United States, Teri Takemori (Glenville, N.Y.) arrived in Fukuoka, Japan Tuesday to participate in the first Women’s Coaches Seminar held by the International Judo Federation.
Takemori will participate in the seminar from Dec. 13-15 and will attend the Fukuoka Women’s Championships, one of the premier women’s judo tournaments in the world, from Dec. 16-17.
Each Continental Judo Federation was allowed to select four female judo coaches to attend the seminar that will include 19 participants from around the world. Takemori was selected as a representative of the Pan American Judo Union along with Olympian Sophie Roberge (CAN), Mara Naransic (ARG) and Fabiola Yeguez (VEN).
The seminar attendees include women who are not only excellent coaches, but many former top players as well, including two-time World Champion and Olympic medalist Emanuela Pierantozzi (ITA).
Takemori is the assistant coach of the Jason Morris Judo Center. Takemori and husband Jason Morris (Glenville, N.Y.), the 2008 U.S. Olympic Head Coach nominee for judo, have produced many top-level players, including 2005 Pan American Champion Carrie Chandler (Glenville, N.Y.) and 2006 Pan Am medalists Jeremy Liggett (Glenville, N.Y.) and Katie Mocco (Glenville, N.Y.)
An A-Level referee who officiated at the 2003 World Championships, Takemori also was an outstanding competitor, medaling eight times at the Senior Nationals and winning a Pacific Rim Championship.
