A MOSSEND youngster has won his first national medal since turning his attention from karate to judo.

Cardinal Newman High pupil Ewan O'Raw (12) took bronze in the under-14 category at the Scottish Judo Championships in Perth despite being one of the smallest competitors.

Ewan will compete at the British Championships in Sheffield next month and has been selected for next year's International Children's Games in Lanarkshire.

His talent has already been recognised by Judo Scotland who have invited him to join the Scottish Development Squad.

Dad Hugh said: "He is quite small for his age so he did really well up against older and bigger boys. Next year we expect he'll do even better."
