Down to compete at U17 Championships
Sport Milton Keynes' U18 sports achiever of the year, Renzoku Judo Club's Sarah Down, has been selected to represent Great Britain in the European U17 Championships in Slovenia on June 26.Sarah is understandably thrilled with her selection, the GB team restricted to just six girl players across all the eight weight groups.

Sarah competed in her first international event for the England U17 team in Fueringola, Spain, finishing a creditable fifth in the U44kg category, losing to the eventual winner Sophie Hogrefee in the second round.

>> Renzoku players have been in action in a number of competitions both at home and abroad in recent months. In the Ford competition which was held in Dagenham, Jodie Caller fought well above her normal weight group competing for the first time in the U48kg class.

This meant she came up against team-mate Melissa Creamer in the semi-final to whom she narrowly lost by a penalty point. Jodie thus had to settle for the bronze medal while Melissa went on to lose against former champion Annabel Ryan-Cooper in the final, Melissa suffering from a badly sprained ankle in the process.Jamie Caller, competing in the boys' U55kg category, fought well throughout his preliminary contests, beating Ramone Alexander in the semi-final before narrowly losing to Brandon Banton in the final.

>> At the British Schools Championships in Sheffield David Down not only took the gold medal after four hard fought contests but also scored enough points to gain his black belt.
