KARACHI: Pakistan judo squad returned on Thursday after receiving a month long training in Iran in connection with the preparations for the First Asian Martial Games to be held in Bangkok from April 25 to May 3.

The secretary of the Pakistan Judo Federation (PJF) Masood Ahmad, who was also in Tehran with the team during training, told 'The News' on Friday that the training was very productive and it would help the players extend good performance in the Bangkok Games.

The fourteen-member team spent almost 25 days in Iran during which the boys also participated in the Eighth Azad Islamic University Judo tournament and grabbed third position. In the competition held from March 8 to 10, 14 countries had participated.

Masood said that the players also played against the Iran national team players, besides fighting against other local talented players during their stay in Iran. He said that the players also received a week-long training from Iran's coach Sajjad Kazmi. He said he was so impressed by Kazmi's coaching style that he has decided to hire him in the future.

"We will give Kazmi 1500 dollars per month besides accommodation. The Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) have given their approval but have sent the case to Sports Ministry and I hope it will also give us a positive reply," he said.

"Kazmi's services as a coach will help our players prepare in excellent manner for the Asian Martial Arts Games," he said.
