March 30th, a judo competition will be held in Ulaanbaatar between the Mongolian and Russian national teams. The president of the Mongolian Judo Federation, Kh.Battulga, initiated the tournament. The Russian team will not be easy to defeat as there are many powerful and experienced judokas in the team who have gained medals from various international tournaments.
According to the Mongolian national coach Ch.Nasantogtokh, the Mongolian team will win the tournament. There will be several Russian Judokas which have won medals from the continental championships. Mongolian team members are not ready yet, but it is most certain that members of the Mongolian national team will be on the team.
One thing which makes the tournament more exciting for the public as well for the athletes is the large amount of prize money. Currently, both sides have agreed to place USD 50 000 from both sides which makes the total prize money USD 100 000. Battulga also noted that this sum may be raised to USD 100 000 from both sides. If this happens the prize money will be over Tg 250 million.
In comparison, the government has planned to give a gold medalist from the Olympic Games Tg 120 million. Needless to say, the Mongolian team is currently training intensively for the upcoming tournament.
