Jack Kerouac, Poetry For The Beat Generation/Blues and Haikus
Mar 21 2008 by Christopher Rees, Western Mail Beat poet Jack Kerouac inspired generations of writers and musicians alike, from Bob Dylan and Tom Waits to the world of the lonesome traveller depicting Americana.
Recorded in 1958, Poetry For The Beat Generation found Kerouac reading over Steve Allen’s jazz piano while Blues and Haikus had him interacting with the saxophones of Al Cohn and Zoot Sims.
Kerouac’s work was fuelled by the freedom of bop jazz so marrying his words with music made perfect sense.
Standout Tracks The Moon Her Majesty, Book Of Blues.
