ST Albans Judo Club juniors produced some sparkling performances at the British Junior Kata Championships.
Three pairs entered the Nage-No-Kata (throwing techniques) and two pairs entered Katame-No-Kata (groundwork techniques).Bradley Howell and Victoria Cleevely won gold in the Under 12s with great speed, concentration and accuracy.
Tom Borzak and Megan Taylor beat the three-time winners to take the title in the 12-15 years category and Gemma Wright and Sophie Day, after only a few weeks training together, managed fifth place.
Bradley also won gold with his sister Elena in the Katame-No-Kata Under 12s.Victoria and Megan Taylor had to settle for silver on the decision of the judges after a fine performance left them tied with the gold medals in the 12-15 years.
Coaches Zoli Borzak and Bob Cleevely demonstrated Katame-No-Kata and then Juno-Kata in the British Senior Open Kata Championships and the British National Kata Trials on the same day. The standards at the tournament were extremely high and the duo finished fifth and fourth respectively.
