XIII Pacific Games officially opens

The XIII Pacific Games officially opened this afternoon at Apia Park in Samoa. The ceremony was filled with vibrant colors, harmonious singing and cultural dances. Fiji led the march with netball's Matila Waqanidrola in traditonal Fijian attire. The Fijian contingent consisted of athletes from archery, baseball, basketball, beach volleyball, body building, cricket, golf, hockey, judo, lawn bowls, netball, sailing, shooting, squash, surfing, swimming, table tennis, taekwando, tennis, touch rugby, triathlon, volleyball and weightlifting. The men's soccer team failed to make the show as they were playing their first pool match against Tuvalu at the time of the ceremony. The women footballers though managed to join the opening ceremony after beasting Cook Islands 4-1. The games proper begins on Tuesday (Fiji Time) with baseball, beach volleyball, cricket, hockey, judo, lawm bowls, netball, sailing, shooting, squash, swimming, table tennis, tennis, touch rugby and volleyball.
