
Universiade 2007: Algerian Meriem Moussa claims bronze medal
[Aps 16/8/07] Algiers- Algerian judoka Meriem Moussa won bronze medal Thursday, in the judo event of the 24th Universiade to be wrapped up Friday in Bangkok (Thailand), after more than a week sports contest.
Meriem Moussa (-48 kg) defeated in a little finale (for 3rd position) Italian Francesca Congia before the end of the five-minute contest.
The Algerian judo contestant beat Carmen Bogdan in the round before the quarter finals. In the quarter final, Meriem Moussa defeated Burcu Gokoz (Turkey), before she was eliminated by Japanese Tomoko Fukumi, who wins the title.The silver gold was won by Russian Nataliya Kondrateva, while the other bronze was snatched by German Jeanette Pesch Severine.
The Algerian judo contestant Samir Attouche (-60 kg) lost a bronze medal after he was beaten by Iranian Hostafa Dalirian only one minute 55 seconds after the fight began.
Attouche has placed 5th along with Daytan Hovhannes (Armenia).
In the eliminating heat, Samir Attouche won against Slovak Branislav Schroner (16th final), Thedoros Mandrides (Cyprus) in the round before the quarter final and LLkhom Saltvadiev (Uzbekistan).
Bangkok Univesiade's last day (Friday) will be devoted to team events (men and women).
Algerian participation to the 24th Universiade, in Bagkok (Thailand), ended with a gold medal won by Samir Khadar in the 1500 m event.
