TEARS rolled down the eyes of judo's golden girl Sisilia Nasiga as she pledged to scoop the two gold medals at stake at the South Pacific Games for her late coach Takahiro Hasegawa.
"The last few weeks has been really hard for me after I lost my coach Takahiro, the man that introduced me to judo and coached me until he passed away last month," she said yesterday.
"I'll win the gold medal in my two events for him.
"Despite being really ill, he (Takahiro) was always anxious to know whether I had made the SPG team and how my preparations was going for the World Champs,"
"It's been really painful not having him around and the last time we spoke over the telephone, he told me to always uphold my country's name," a tearful Nasiga added.
Nasiga, the Japan-based Olympic Solidarity Scholarship holder from Naua village in Macuata, made a clean sweep at the 2003 Games in Suva winning three gold medals.
The 27-year-old, a third year Sports business management student, recently settled into the Fukuoka University College of Economics after spending two years at the Nihon Bunri University.
"I'm the only female in that unit and training with men has really increased my power and I feel more confident entering competitions," she said.
