South Korea top Vietnam hosts to win HCMC Int’l Judo Open

Host Vietnam stands second on the overall medal tally behind South Korea at the Ho Chi Minh City International Judo Open that concluded Sunday.
Vietnam grabbed a total of five gold medals, eight silvers and 16 bronzes at the two-day event while South Korea dominated the tournament by winning 11 golds and three silvers.
Japan ranked third with a gold, a silver and two bronze medals.
But the host team’s second place at the 16th annual event is to be take with a grain of salt as only two of the five events were in Olympic weight formats.
The Vietnamese champions in the ‘standard’ categories include Van Ngoc Tu in the women’s 48kg and Bui Thi Hoa in women’s 63kg.
Vietnamese winners of three other titles are Duong Thi Thanh Tam, Trinh Cong Son, and Nguyen Duy Khanh in the women’s 45kg, men’s 50kg, and men’s 55kg respectively, which are not Olympic categories and are only applied in Southeast Asia.
The 2007 event drew participation of 162 fighters from ten Asian countries.
