VietNamNet Bridge – South Korean artists bagged 11 gold and three silver medals to take the International Judo Tournament at HCM City's Phan Dinh Phung Gymnasium yesterday.
Vietnam placed second with five golds, eight silvers and 16 bronzes, ahead of Japan, who came in third with one gold, three silver and three bronze medals.
On the final day of competition, Bui Thi Hoa was the only Vietnamese athlete to win a gold medal topping the women's under-63kg weight class.
Vietnam started off with a bang on the opening day of the tournament, taking four gold medals.
Van Ngoc Tu, who won two golds in the Southeast Asian Games in 2003 and 2005, dominated in the women's under-48kg weight class, beating three rivals with ippon (knock-out) points.
In her first match, Tu beat her teammate Ngoc Nha, before cruising over South Korean Kim Su-hee. In the all-Vietnamese final, Tu trumped Ngoc Tien to win the gold for Vietnam.
In the under-45kg division, Duong Thi Thanh Minh beat Dang Le Bich Van to take the title, while Trinh Cong Son took a win over Le Xuan Hoang in the men's under-48kg final.
Nguyen Duy Khanh defended his gold medal after beating South Korean Han Young-hun in the men's under-55kg class last Saturday.
The tournament has drawn 162 athletes from South Korea, Thailand, Hong Kong, Singapore, Myanmar, Malaysia, Laos, the Philippines and Vietnam competing in the 18 men's and women's weight categories.
