Brazil to Celebrate 2007 World Judo
Rio de Janeiro, Aug 30 (Prensa Latina) The Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB), the Brazilian Sports Ministry and the Rio High Performance Sports Office gave their support Thursday to hosting the 2007 World Judo Championship from September 13 to 16.
The event guarantees classification places for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China, with the participation of 776 athletes, from powerful countries like Japan, Russia, Holland, France and Cuba.
An alert from International Judo Confederation President Yong Sung Park provoked a quick response from Brazilian Olympic Committee president Carlos Arthur Nuzman and other entities.
The Rio de Janeiro mayoralty signed a 2.5 million dollar contract for the event, and the Sports Ministry increased the amount by 230,000 dollars, with the Brazilian Olympic Committee contributing another 800,000 dollars.
