Young Hamilton judo exponent Ivica Pavlinic has won a silver medal at the Pacific Rim Judo Championships in Macau.
Pavlinic, 18, was beaten in the final of the junior (under-20) men's under-73kg division by a Korean by two wazaris - the equivalent of an ippon plus 10 points.
There were seven countries represented in the weight category.
The only Waikato-Bay of Plenty member of the New Zealand team competing in Macau at the weekend, Pavlinic is a member of the Metro Judo Club in Hamilton.
He won a gold medal at the Oceania championships earlier this year.
His coach, Terry Steenson, said the silver medal was an excellent result and just reward for all the effort and training the teenager had put in leading up to the tournament.
Pavlinic has now headed to Europe for more competition before returning towards the end of September.
The New Zealand championships are in October and Pavlinic would be expected to be selected for the national side to compete at the Commonwealth championships in Mauritius in early January.Fonte: Waikato Times - Waikato, New Zealand
