Ongoing wrangles in the Kenya Judo Association are likely to affect preparations of the national team that is due to take part in the Africa Judo Championship.
The championship, to be staged in Agadir, Morocco from May 12 to 18, will be used as a qualifier for the Beijing Olympics.
The new Kenya Judo Association secretary, John Bogie, was surprised on Friday to learn that his office is not recognised by the National Olympic Committee of Kenya.
Despite being notified of the new KJA officials, the NOCK still deals with Bogie’s predecessors.
A letter from NOCK sent to one of the KJA affiliates, Prisons, asks for the release of three judokas Charles Mugendi, Harry Muturi and Isaac Kinyanyui for intensive non residential training at Kenyatta University from April 7 and travel clearance to Morocco from May 12 to 19.
“I have no problem with the NOCK taking care of the air tickets and accommodation of the judokas for the Morocco event, but they should do so in conjunction with the newly elected office bearers,” said Bogie. “We are legitimately in office and the NOCK secretary general, F.K. Paul, should tell us what mechanisms are required for officials to be recognised.”
When contacted, Paul said: “I have never dealt with that group. We do not even know them. We are dealing with the (Stephen) Soi camp, which we have always dealt with.”
Although Paul denied having any knowledge of the Bogie camp, the group had written to him on April 7 revoking the authority of representation by Stephen Soi, pursuant to rule 6.6.2 of the NOCK constitution.
KJA wrote to NOCK a week later forwarding the name of Bogie as their nominee. The Bogie group have also been confirmed
