Poetry about life’s ups and downs

Poetry about life’s ups and downs
By Josephine Woode
A Polish writer living in Hounslow is hoping that a collection of poetry will help to catapult her into international recognition.
Beeta Karabowski was selected to submit a trio of poems for a forthcoming book after entering a national competition run by the Daily Telegraph. The book is entitled A Passion for Life.
The 40-year-old recalls: "After I entered the competition, I received a letter asking permission to showcase my poems alongside the best work of poets.
"I am so excited about the launch of the book. My poems are about how you go through life's ups and downs. It's something that everyone can relate to."
Beeta describes her poems as "like short stories, similar to songs as there is something for everyone."
Born in 1967 in Poland, Beeta was fascinated with literature and began writing and illustrating her own books. After growing up on a diet of Westerns starring John Wayne, the writer "fell madly" in love with horses. The animals form a major theme of her artwork.
The poet settled in the UK 20 years ago and worked in healthcare before raising her three daughters. A chance meeting with Stephen King at an autograph signing in 1998 inspired Beata to kick-start her career.
She devotes her time to poetry, works at the Orchard Junior School and as a hairdresser.
Artwork is another passion for Beeta as she enjoys drawing and painting horses. She said: "I enjoy painting during my spare time and it is a great hobby which fits in with my family life.
"My art is not commercial as I love painting with passion. I love to share my art with people."
Beeta is currently talks with Waterstones to be involved in an autograph signing after the poetry book launch.
When asked what her future hopes were, she replied: "I think poetry will always be a part of me.
"I thrive on energy and have a zest for life. Health is very important and I intend to continue expressing myself through my work."
A Passion for Life, a 50 page collection of poetry and images, published by United Press is expected to hit bookshops in May.
