Cuban Judokas Take Part in China Qingdao Tournament
Havana, Nov 23 (acn) The Cuban men's and women's judo teams are competing this weekend at the Seventh Qingdao International Judo Tournament, underway November 21 to 26 in this Chinese city.
The women's team, led by Coach Ronaldo Veitia, won second place at the World Team Championship recently held in Beijing, lossing to the host squad.
Gold medals in Beijing went to Cuban Driulis Gonzalez (63 kg) and Yanet Bermoy (48 kg), while Yurisleidis Lupetey (57kg) made draws, and Susel Mustelier (52kg), Yalennis Castillo (70kg) and Yurisel Laborde took home silver.
Qingdao is the second stop of the Cuban teams on their tour of Asia. This is the first meet for the men's team, under coach Justo Noda, with Yordanis Arencibia (66 kg), Oreidis Despaigne (100kg) and Oscar Braison (+100kg).
The Qingdao tournament is known for its high-level competition, featuring top judokas from such judo powerhouses as Japan, South Korea and France.
Next on their agenda will be South Korea for the KRA Cup Korea Open International Judo Tournament that takes place December 1 and 2. Their last stop will in Japan on December 8 and 9, for the 2007 Jigoro Kano Cup International Judo Tournament.
