Katie Germain went 6-0 and won gold in two divisions at the Imperial Dragon Judo Invitational held in Lakeland on Sept. 22.
“Obviously as her father and coach I was very proud of Katie,” Summerlin Judo Head Coach Brian Germain said.
“Katie mixed up her techniques well and won with a variety of throws, pins, and one choke to submission. It's always nice to see one of your athletes have a great performance, but it's expecially nice when it's your own daughter.”
Eleven of 13 players on the Summerlin Judo team took home medals. Additional gold medal winners were Ryan McCall, Andrew Burris, Evan McLaughlin, and Tyler Ferry.
Silver medals were captured by Noah Hyde, Oscaar Cabarrcas, Tommy Neason, Red Tanner, and Dallas Gobble. One bronze medal was won by Nate Hesseltine, Jr.
“This was the perfect tournament for our kids to get experience,” Coach Germain said.
“It was primarily a developmental event but there were a few seasoned players in the mix. It's important that these kids get to test themselves so we can see how they are progressing. It's all part of the process of getting them ready for larger regional and national events.”
