Hayden and Charlotte strike gold for Redbridge

IT was golden glory for Redbridge Judo club duo Hayden Verlander and Charlotte Wraith when they travelled to Birmingham on Sunday for the first ranking competition to gain entry into the British Judo Squad.
In the A band, Verlander took gold in under-34kg event, while in the C band, Wraith claimed top prize in the under-44kg section.
There were also two silver medal successes as Reece Sandy in the under-34kg B band and Luke Naunton in the under-66kg senior band both finished second.
To complete the list of medals winners, there were bronzes for Stephanie Hahn in the under-48kg C band and Nicola Barlex in the under-57kg senior band. Five club members finished just outside the medals in fifth place, but they gained valuable ranking points. They were: Freya Verlander, Abbie Cole, Sam Clark, Lara Ashley and Billy Pittman, while Ryan Hahn finished seventh.
Redbridge Judo Club's senior coach Steve Sandy said: "I'm extremely pleased with the squad and the excellent results indicate how hard they train.
