Nigeria Judo Federation Secretary-General, Dr Esther Oluwatoyin Aluko has disagreed with the body's technical director, Professor Olakitan Da souza, who has stated that the country's judokas failed at the recent All Africa Games in Algiers, Algeria.
Rather than flow with Da souza over the shaky fortunes that befell the country on the judo mats, Aluko told brilafm.net that winning two silver and four bronze medals in Algeria was not a far cry from one gold and seven bronze won at Abuja 2003.
"I will not agree with anyone who says we did not do well in Algeria. As far as I am concerned and, as far as the records go, our judokas did their best in Algeria and they have the medals to show for their efforts. I think it's good enough," Aluko stressed.
The former national handball player and ex-scribe of Nigeria Hockey Federation also allayed growing fear that the country's judokas will not attend this year's World Judo Championship in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from September 25, and revealed that the federation is seriously thinking about qualifying for the 2008 Olympic Games.
