Jhapa to host national Judo tourney

KATHMANDU, July 31: Nepal Judo Association will hold 9th National Judo championship in Jhapa's Dhulabari from August 23 to August 26.
There will be 205 participants, 124 men and 81 women in the championship from 22 districts and two government departments. At the meet, the men players will be competing in seven weight categories while women will be playing in six.
According to Ambika Bahadur Chhetri, the NJA General Secretary, a national judo team will be selected after the championship. Players winning the title would be placed in the national A team while those winning silver medals will be put into national B team.
Players from both teams will be put into the close training camp from mid August. The players will be allowed to participate in the international tournaments on the basis of their performance in the training camp. Meanwhile, the players who will participate in the South Asian Judo Championship in Pakistan this year will be put into the close camp while players for the 11th South Asian Games to be held in Bangladesh, General Secretary Chhetri said.
