Mohammad lauds young national judokas

Abu Dhabi: General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, yesterday commended the kind support of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan to wrestling and judo.
Shaikh Mohammad made the comment when he received Mohammad Bin Tha'loob Al Dirae, Chairman of the UAE Wrestling and Judo Association and the members of the under-20 national judo team.
Shaikh Mohammad congratulated the team members for their great performance during the 11th Gulf Judo Championship which concluded in Abu Dhabi.
Al Dirae thanked Shaikh Mohammad for his unlimited support to the wrestling and judo teams. He also vowed a better performance and efforts to reach the advanced levels.
The meeting was attended by Abdullah Muhair Al Kutbi, director of the Abu Dhabi crown prince's office.
Rich haul
The UAE team collected 15 medals during the championship - 4 gold, 4 silver and 7 bronze medals.
On Saturday, 19-year-old UAE star Ali Al Drai completed a memorable double for the hosts when he added the under-60 kg gold in the Open category to his gold-winning effort in the under-19 section on Thursday.
Bin Tha'loob said the two-day championship was a big success.
"The level of the competition was high and the teams in the region were represented by some very talented fighters," he observed.
