YOUNG fighters at a Crewe judo club are in the medals after finishing runners-up in a hard-fought competition.
Members of Shobu Judo Club showed off their martial arts skills at West Street Ju-Jitsu Club's annual event, collecting 14 points and second place to a top club from Northwich.
Ensuring points on the board were medallists Heidi Chapman (bronze), Charlotte Ayers (gold/bronze), Emma Donaldson (silver), Aaron Bowyer (silver), Jordan Sides (gold) and Melissa Brown (gold).
Sensei Les Davidson said: 'Just one more medal and we'd have won the competition. They all performed well and deserved their medals.'
The club used to be named the P-Way Judo Club based in Gresty Road but is now based at Coppenhall Leisure Centre on Coronation Street.

Needing a new name, Les decided on Shobu, a philosophical name which he says means 'putting yourself in a winning position.'
Shobu Judo Club meets every Thursday at Coppenhall Leisure Centre at 7pm, with a mat fee of £2. Les welcomes everyone on his mat from beginners through to the high grades.

* Shavington judo ace Joshua Wolfendale took gold in the North Wales Open Championships.
The 10-year-old got the better of 17 other players from all over the country to take the title, which he adds to his North West Champion and Merseyside Champion awards.
On the way to the final Joshua beat the Welsh National Champion and the North West Open Champion before disposing of his final opponent in quick time.
Four wins out of four got Joshua his well earned gold. He also took part in the Welsh National mini Mon Orange Belt category in Cardiff where he again won gold and took a bronze in two more events - Northern Ireland's Lisburn Cup and the Welsh Closed Championships in Cardiff.
