With London 2012 looming large, a Woodford Green girl has already set her sights firmly on Olympic glory, writes Harry Neicho. Judo star Colleen Kerr will get her first taste of an Olympic-style event next month having been selected for the England squad for the UK School Games in Coventry. The 18-year-old will be up against the best of British judo talent, but having won the title of British junior champion last year, Kerr is a strong favourite for the 63kg crown. The talented teenager, who took up the sport at the tender age of five, will no doubt be hoping that the Games will provide her with a springboard towards her prime goal of Olympic success. "My main aspiration is 2012 and I've been told it's within my capability to be able to compete in that competition," said the young black belt.Unlike other competitions of its type the midlands event will house all the participants under one roof allowing them not only to express their athletic potential but also to experience first hand living conditions similar to that to be found in 2012. "I think this is a fantastic opportunity for our young players to get the experience of a big multi-sport competition while they are developing," said Neil Adams, former two-time Olympic silver medalist.Kerr, herself, is looking forward to the experience and remains confident of her chances of winning the title."I'm feeling quite good about it," she said.
