Marina Lambert of Chesapeake placed fifth in her weight division Friday at the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The 15-year-old rising sophomore at Indian River High School was thrown for an ippon, or full point, in the 78-kilogram (172-pound) division by Lorena Briceno of Argentina to end her quest for a bronze medal.
Earlier in the day she nearly upset Canada's Marylise Levesque, double-legging her for a quarter-point score. But Levesque took Lambert to the ground, pinning her and then choking her for the win.

Lambert came back in the repechage to defeat Kelvi Pinto of Venezuela, a 2003 Pan Am Games medalist, before falling to Briceno.
Edinanci Silva of Brazil won the gold medal in the 78-kilogram class; Yurisel Laborde of
Cuba took the silver, and Briceno and Levesque shared bronze. Lambert has won Pan American junior tournaments but has competed as a senior internationally for less than a year.
"It's been hard because even though you're fighting people from the same country, they've been through a whole lot more and it's much more intense," Lambert said.
Ronda Rousey of Santa Monica, Calif., won the gold medal in the 70 kilogram (154-pound) division.
Also on Friday, Cuba defeated the United States 3-1 to win the gold medal in baseball. The U.S. squad managed only four hits against Adiel Palma, who struck out nine. Pedro Luis Lazo allowed one hit in getting the save.
Jacob Thompson of Virginia was the loser as the United States used five pitchers who allowed 10 hits.
"It was a tough loss, but I thought we played well," U.S. manager Mike Weathers said. "We couldn't solve their pitching. "Both teams played very well. We should be very proud to win a silver medal."
Had the weather not cooperated Friday, the Americans would have forfeited because they had a flight out of Rio at night for a series of games against China in Alabama.
