WIRRAL Judo club coach Chris Soakell was named Coach of the Year at a Future Sporting Champions Dinner held at the Crowne Plaza, Liverpool, on Friday.
Chris is pictured left after receiving his award at the event, organised by Mersey Sports Partnership.
He started with Wirral Judo Club some five years ago with just one class of 14 young people. He now has five beginners' classes, two intermediate classes, two advanced classes and one all-ability training session.
He has coached 20 Merseyside champions, six North West champions and two medal winners and Junior Championships.
Funds raised at the event, through raffle ticket sales, table sales and sponsorship of awards go into a bursary to help young people pay for professional training, sports equipment and transport to competitions.
A previous recipient of funds is Wirral's World Championship gold medallist Beth Tweddle, who received a standing ovation on the night.
Beth was at the event receiving a Sports Scholarship from Liverpool John Moores University, along with 12 other sports students.
