Harmeling, Germain Place in JudoBy

T.J. Harmeling and instructor Brian Germain of Summerlin Judo each placed in the U.S. Open Judo Championships last weekend in Miami. Germain won the 45-to-49 year-old 100 kg division while Harmeling placed fifth in the Seniors 100 kg (heavyweight) division. Germain defeated Blaine Bellerud of Oregon and Gabe Carmichael of Fort Lauderdale."Gabe was a tough match," Germain said. "He's a Fort Lauderdale police officer and a good friend of mine. Every time we fight we always give each other our best."Harmeling defeated Daniel McCormick of Texas for the bronze medal. McCormick is 6foot-5, 310 pounds while Harmeling is 6-foot, 235 pounds."I give T.J. a lot of credit just going out there against a guy that size," Germain said.
