Wednesday, 16 August 2006
Jordan Dodman has been crowned the Port Augusta Young Sportsperson of the Year for the second consecutive time on Saturday night at the Port Augusta Junior Sports Assistance Foundation dinner.
Dodman's sister Sally accepted the award on his behalf, in front of a crowd of more than 200 young sports people and their families.
He was in Adelaide competing in the finals of the Australian Basketball League, for his district club Sturt.
Dodman has had a busy year in sport, playing in the Australian Junior Football Championships, where he was approached by five AFL clubs to enter the national draft.
But it was his love of basketball and aspirations to represent his country that eventually won in the end.
Dodman has made several trips overseas in the past year, representing Australia at various competitions and training camps.
He was also selected as part of the Adelaide 36ers training squad, and has represented South Australia at the under 20 National Championships in Perth.
There were several young sports people who could have taken out this award on the night, which showcased the great talent Port Augusta has to offer.
Representatives from Basketball, Judo, Athletics and BMX were the winners of the monthly sportsperson awards, with representatives from all sports nominated for the special achiever and incentive awards.
Matthew Freeman was presented with the overall Special Achiever Award for his efforts in Judo, with Taylor Rittenberg taking out the overall Special Incentive Award for her efforts in Swimming.
