Why judo federation moved to Abuja — Oreweme

Why judo federation moved to Abuja — Oreweme

Closeness to decision makers in the Nigeria Judo Federation (NJF) is the only reason for the movement of the secretariat of the federation to Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, the Secretary General of the NJF, Mrs. Tayo Oreweme, has said.
Oreweme said in Lagos last week that it was wrong for people to insinuate that she took a unilateral decision to relocate the federation’s secretariat as “the decision was actually taken by the board at their meeting last December”.
She, however, revealed that despite the board’s decision, Judo was not part of the sports the ministry listed among the batch to move to Abuja now but an opportunity came “when swimming said they were not ready to go to Abuja now since they have spent a lot of money to renovate their swimming pool and when the director (Dr. Amos Adamu) asked which federation was ready I quickly raised my hand”.
She said that apart from the federation’s President, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, who was more in Abuja than even Umuahia, the Ist and 2nd Vice Presidents Isa Matori and Alhaji Audu Nuhu who approve funds for the secretariat to work with are based in Abuja and it was reasonable they moved closer to them.
She said they have concluded plans to move to Abuja but had to delay it until after this week’s board meeting in Umuahia on Thursday and Friday. She said the federation would continue the propagation of judo to schools as every child needs to get a knowledge of self defence in unsafe environment that our soceity is turning into.
