
Oraifi steals show BAHRAIN's rising judo star Khalid Nabeel Al Oraifi took first place in the Kuwait Clubs League Championship which concluded recently.
The event was held at the Kuwaiti Judo and Taekwondo Federation Gym with 60 participants from eight clubs - Sulaibikhat, Al Qadesia, Khaitan, Al Jahra, Al Salmiya, Kuwait Club, Al Yarmoook and Al Sahel - competing over eight weight categories.
Al Oraifi, who is presently training in Kuwait at Al Qadesia Club for the December 2006 Asian Games in Doha, took part in the under-100kg section and won all his seven matches, including two victories over Kuwait's top judo players.
The one-day tournament was held under the patronage of federation president Shaikh Khalifa Al Abdulla Al Jaber Al Sabah.
Bahain Martial Arts Association (BMAA) member and judo manager Khalid Al Hassan said he was delighed over this achievement which is part of an extensive programme prepared by the association for the player.
Al Hassan confirmed that the association is planning to send Al Oraifi for a training camp in Poland next month prior to the Gulf Championship in August and another camp in Japan in October for the Asian Games.
