Judo Group Brings Home Medals

A group of 11 athletes from Gym Etc. Judo of Lakeland came home from the Sunshine State Games held in Miami with four gold medals, three silvers and a bronze.

Ryan McCall benefitted from some weekend training sessions with other clubs by earning a Gold medal in the age 9-10 division.

Noah Hyde earned gold in the age 7-8 division and sisters Katie Germain (11-12) and Kelly Germain (9-10) also took home gold medals."They stepped up big," said coach Brian Germain. "I was pretty impressed with the way they've been fighting. Ryan came out of nowhere. He's a perennial second or third-place guy."The club. located on Winter Lake Road, will be holding its own clinic Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to noon and from 1-3 p.m.Silver medals went to Brian Germain, 47, Ben Putnam (age 9-10 division) and Mike Kowalczyk (age 13-14).

Seth Hawkins earned a bronze in the 9-10 category.

Joey Pereziosi, Jansen Valk and Johnny Purvis also competed.All of Germain's students are preparing for the Junior Nationals to be held next month in Fort Lauderdale.
