Judo club's French trip fun
EIGHTEEN Judo players of all ages and grade together with family supporters made up a group of 40 people from Winslow Judo club who travelled with others from the town to visit their 'twinned' club in Cours-la- Ville, France last weekend.
The journey wasn't straightforward. A 3am start on Saturday from Winslow was needed to catch the flight, which had problems and had to turn back to get another plane. On arrival in Cours there was barely time to eat with the host families before it was all down to the local sports centre for an afternoon joint practice session. Sunday was competition day and Winslow fielded a team of 17. After some exciting and very hard-fought contests the result was a clear win for the French team this time. After the competition a special celebration dinner and dance for all involved was provided by the hosts' families and the next day a sight-seeing trip out to Lyon was enjoyed. This was the club's fourth bi-annual visit, while the French have been to Winslow three times, so many friendships have been formed over the years and 'twinning' has provided lots of opportunities for exchanging coaching ideas and giving Winslow players experience of competing with players from a top European Judo nation.
