Honorary honour for Ted
Wednesday, May 31: 4.30pm - AFTER almost 40 years of training in the martial art, Ted Cook has been made an honorary member of Boston Judo Club.
The 67-year-old coach joined the club in 1968, having never participated in sports before, and was promoted to the rank of senior brown belt in 1972.He undertakes a number of roles at the club, from helping to inspire other competitors to laying out the mats.He also works to keep up the links between the Boston club and Laval Judo Club in our French twin town.
"Judo is the best thing I have ever done," said Ted. "I have enjoyed meeting and fighting competitors from other clubs."I love to help both the juniors and seniors with their judo. "From helping to coach them I get a great deal of pride and satisfaction when they do well at gradings and competitions. "Dave Jacklin has been Boston Judo Club's coach for 35 years. He said: "Ted has been active on our judo mats for as long as I can remember. He is a tough and intelligent fighter, always giving 100 per cent but also giving 100 per cent to help other Judokas develop their judo, including myself. "Ted, pictured with his certificate of honorary membership, is only the fourth member to receive the accolade in the club's 50-year history.
