AZERBAIJANI JUDOIST BECOMES EUROPEAN CHAMPION [May 27, 2006, 17:39:40]

Member of the Azerbajan national judo team Elnur Mammadli (73 kg) won gold medal in the European championship in Tampere, Finland. Azerbaijani senior coach Agayar Akhundzade’s squad comprises five athlets, with Elnur Mammadli being the first to mount to the highest step of the podium. On his way to the title Madatli knocked out from the competition his rivals from Norway, Russia, Bulgaria, the Netherlands and France. Two more Azerbaijani judoists Ramil Gasimov (66 kg) and Nigar Jabbarova (52 kg) failed to reach the next round. Two more Azerbaijani judoists Mehman Azizov (81 kg) and Kifayat Gasimova (57 kg) will soon climb onto the tatami.
