Zambian Judokas have reaped 10 gold, 13 silver and one bronze medals to dominate the African Zone Six judo championship that was held in the Zimbabwean capital Harare over the weekend, local newspaper Times of Zambia reported Monday.
The Zambian squad conquered all in the Kuresh category after an eight-year lull from the event. Zambia Judo Association (ZJA) president Shapa Wakung'uma was quoted as saying the performance of the fighters were "excellent", adding that their abilities were proved in the tournament.
National team coach Francis Linosi said the team had prepared adequately for the championship hence the satisfying result.
He said the team would start preparing for the Commonwealth championships scheduled for Ireland in June.
The Zone Six judo tournament attracted six countries, namely Angola, Botswana, Mozambique, South Africa, Zambia and host Zimbabwe.
