Vashkulat tops at Pan Am judo
Staff reports First published: Monday, April 17, 2006 Four members from the Jason Morris Judo Club in Glenville earned medals at the Junior Pan Am Championships in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Kyle Vashkulat, 15, a Burnt Hills sophomore, defeated Brazil's Tales De Camargo in the 15- to 16-year-old 90-kilogram final. He was named the meet's Most Outstanding Male Competitor.
A.J. Silverman, 18, a Burnt Hills senior, avenged his U.S. Open finals loss last summer by eliminating Mexico's Armando Ortiz for the bronze in the 17- to 19-year-old 66-kilogram (145-pound) class.
Jeremy Liggett, 17, a Burnt Hills junior, earned the bronze in the 17- to 19-year-old 60-kg division by going 3-1. UAlbany freshman Yuko Sin won a bronze in the 17- to 19-year-old 81-kg (178-pound) division.
