Vermilion Standard — Jordan Poliakiwski can now add international fighter to her already impressive list of achievements in the sport of judo.Poliakiwski finished tenth out of thirty-five fighters at the Thuringia World Cup, held in Erfurt, Germany, from March 25 to March 30, despite fierce competition."Jordan came off the mat after her first fight and told me, 'Dad, they don't want to beat you, they want to kill you!'" said Darcy Poliakiwski, Jordan's father."The fighting was the most intense I've ever witnessed.”Jordan fought in a total of five matches. The first match, against a competitor from France, lasted four minutes out of the possible ten allocated and ended when Jordan was thrown by her opponent."I was doing really well, and I just walked towards her and she threw me," said Jordan. The next three matches, all against German competitors, were decided in favor of Jordan."I just threw them all and I won," she said. The German competitor who defeated Jordan in her last match went on to win the bronze, while her French opponent from the first fight finished with the gold."I lasted longer with her than the other girl did in the final round," said Jordan. Jordan said she would return to the tournament."My goal for this year is to go back and do better - probably win a medal."Jordan's trip to Germany was sponsored by Judo Canada. If she wins the national title in July and a few major tournaments in the fall of 2006, she will keep her sponsorship for next year. After returning to Alberta, Jordan proved that she is well on her way to a successful season when she and her three sisters fought in the Edmonton International Tournament held April 8 to April 9."All four fought and all four won," said Darcy Poliakiwski.
