Cuba conquista prata na Copa do Mundo da Inglaterra

O time feminino de judo de Cuba conquistou uma medalha de ouro e duas quintas colocações na Copa de Mundo, que aconteceu no último fim de semana, na Inglaterra.Sheila Espinosa, que ganhou a medalha de prata, perdeu por Ippon para a atleta chinesa Yaling Yu, na categoria até 57kg. Sheila venceu Genoma Howell (Inglaterra) e Irene Chevreuil (França), por Ippon e a russa Arina Alexandrova por koka. Ficaram em quinto lugar, Yamilka Del Valle, 52kg, que perdeu a medalha de bronze para a portuguesa Joana Ramos, e a veterana Ivis Dueñas perdeu a medalha de bronze para a inglesa Simone Callender, na categoria até 78kg. Outras quatro atletas cubanas participaram da competição: Mairelia Ferrera (-48kg), Onix Cortés (-63kg), Lissette Echevarria (-70kg) e Mariolis Aguilera (+78kg).Com esse resultado, Cuba fica na oitava posição por paises, atrás de China, Rússia, Alemanha, Estados Unidos, Romênia, Espanha e Inglaterra. O time cubano feminino treina em Cuenca, Equador, sob supervisão do treinador Ronaldo Veitia. Elas se preparam para o Centro Americano e Jogos do Caribe, que acontecem em Julho, na Colômbia; Campeonato mundial, em setembro, na França; e para o Pan-Americano, em maio, na Argentina.

The Cuban women's judo team picked up a silver medal and two fifth positions at the World Cup held this past weekend inBirmingham, England.
Sheila Espinosa -the silver medal winner- lost by Ippon to the Chinese athlete Yaling Yu, in the 57-kilo category finals on Saturday, reports the website of that high-level international event.
Espinosa had previously defeated Genoma Howell (G.B.) and Irene Chevreuil (France), by Ippon and the Russian Arina Alexandrova by the koka rule.
The fifth positions were attained by the Cuban novice Yamilka del Valle, 52 kg, who lost fighting for the bronze to the Portuguese Joana Ramos. Cuban veteran Ivis Dueñas, was also defeated competing for the bronze by Britian's Simone Callender in the over 78 kg division.
The other four Cuban judo athletes participating were: Mairelia Ferrera (48), Onix Cortés (63), Lissette Echevarria (70) and Mariolis Aguilera (78).
With theses results, Cuba (0-1-0) obtained the eighth position by countries, outdone by China (2-1-2), Russia (2-1-1), Germany (1-0-1), the United States (1-0-0), Rumania (1-0-0), Spain (0-2-4) and the United Kingdom (0-1-3).
Cuba's women's judo team is currently training in Cuenca, Ecuador, by Professor Ronaldo Veitia. They are preparing for the Centro American and the Caribbean Games to take place in July in Colombia, for the World Championship, to take place in September in France, and for the Pan American Games to take place in May in Argentina.
