JUDO: Deakin selected for European ChampionshipsWARRINGTON'S Lucy Deakin will represent Great Britain in judo's European Cadet Championships in Bosnia this summer.
The 15-year-old national champion from Orford has been selected after impressing in trials staged in Sheffield.
Her Warrington Warjukwai Judo Club teammate Jade Williams, of Liverpool, will also make the trip, while Daniel Lyon has been named as a reserve.
Deakin will compete in Poland in May and spend a week in Germany with the Great Britain squad before that as part of her preparations for the championships in Sarajevo from July 4 to 6.
Under 78kg competitor and William Beamont Community School pupil Deakin is the current British under 16s age band champion and has been in good form.
Deakin, one of a number in the elite training group under the tutelage of double Olympian and European champion Nigel Donohue at Warrington Warjukwai's Woolacombe Close base, won a gold medal in the trials at Sheffield.

She has also won the Midlands Open and gained a silver medal in the North West Open this year.
