Ruben Houkes surprised everyone at the world judo championships in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday by winning the gold medal in the under-60 kg class.
The 28-year-old from Haarlem has always been seen as a good second level fighter, reports Monday's AD. His win over the Georgian Nestor Khergiani gives him an automatic place at the Olympics in China in 2008.
