Cuban Quartet in World Judo Last Date
Rio de Janeiro, Sep 16 (Prensa Latina) Cuba presents its last group of athletes at the closing date of the 25th World Judo Championship at the Olympic Arena in this capital Sunday.
Female contendants Yanet Bermoy (48 kgs) and Idalis Ortiz (over 78 kgs) and men Yasmani Piker (under 60 kgs) and heavyweight Tenochtitlán Cárdenas will go to classification matches.
Cuba has had an outstanding performance and is in the third place after Brazil and France, with a total of two gold, one silver and one bronze medal.
In the first and second day female athletes Yurisel Laborde (under 78 kgs) and Driulis Gonzalez (63 kgs) got gold medals, and the bronze medal was achieved by male Oreidi Despaigne.
Male Yordanis Arencibia won the silver medal, after being beaten by Brazilian Joao Derly, world two-time champion, in a very even match.
Arencibia considered there were actions the judges did not register but he said it was a good result anyway.
He said he will keep on training hard to go to the Olympic Games and excel his results in this competition.
