The Abbotsford Judo Club made an impression at the Edmonton International Tournament earlier this month, as they brought home seven medals. The tournament, which was held at West Edmonton Mall, attracted over 600 competitors, but the Abby contingent more than held their own. Rebecca Pretious led the medal charge as she won gold in both the juvenile and junior divisions, while Peter Chiba, Erica Sprott and Ray Goerke also climbed to the top of the podium. Kris De Luna and Layton Keely both won bronze medals. The local club has also qualified 10 athletes for Canadian Judo Nationals. De Luna, Kimi Suda and Fred Jaskiewicz will make the trip to senior nationals in Winnipeg in May, while Pretious, Keely, Sprott, Goerke, Aaron McFadden and Craig Rees will attend junior nationals in Lethbridge. Jesse Jobb was selected as an alternate to junior nationals, while Drew Roots and Matt Roots competed well at the Edmonton International meet.
