“Judo is a sport translatable into a way of life as its principles are performed in everyday life and not only on the mat” said enthusiastic Black Belt Head coach Mr Ray Fava at Skolasport. It requires and develops an individual’s personality based on persistence, perseverance and a code of ethics.
A mixed group of youngsters between the ages of 11 and 16 meet up at the Marsa Sports Complex to practice judo sessions as part of Skolasport’s programme, which is sponsored by Kellogg’s. The sessions are held every Saturday morning between 9am and 10.30am.
Sessions start with warm-up and physical fitness exercises such as running and jogging. After specific judo techniques related to the mechanics of lifting, throwing and falling are explained and practiced. Then, game situations are performed according to age and weight.
Mr Fava emphasised that under normal health conditions and sensitive coaching, everybody can practice judo in conjunction with a strong will and drive. Sport is an essential in life and judo may be adopted as a way of life thus providing mental relief, physical fitness and overall discipline.
This is one of the prime objectives for which Skolasport organised by the Kunsill Malti ghall-iSport is sponsored by Kellogg’s. Kellogg’s promotes good nutrition and physical exercise for a healthy well-being.
