Tani wins seventh world title at judo championships in Brazil

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil: Two-time Olympic champion Ryoko Tani of Japan defeated Cuba's Yanet Bermoy on Sunday in the under 48-kilo class at the judo championships to win her seventh world title.
Tani, the gold medalist in the last two Olympic Games, beat Bermoy on the last day of competition. She also took the gold in that class at the 2005 world championships in Egypt.
Japan won another gold in the women's open class with Olympic champion Maki Tsukada, who defeated Lucija Polauder of Slovakia in the final.
Yasuyuki Muneta beat Jury Rybak of Belarus to win the men's open class and give Japan its third gold of the tournament. Brazil was the only other country with three gold medals after four days of competition.
In the men's under 60-kilo class, Ruben Houkes of the Netherlands beat Georgia's Nestor Khergiani, a silver medalist in the Athens Olympics.
